Anggun Cipta Sasmi is an Indonesian-French singer, songwriter, and television personality who began performing in Jakarta at age seven. She recorded her first children's album two years later and rose to prominence in 1989 as a teenage rock star during Indonesia's pre-Reformasi pop-rock boom. By 1993, she had released five Indonesian-language studio albums, establishing herself as one of the era's most influential voices. Rolling Stone included her single "Mimpi" on its list of the 150 Greatest Indonesian Songs of All Time, cementing her place in the country's musical canon. After relocating to France and signing with Sony Music France, Anggun became one of the first Indonesian artists to achieve sustained international success, bridging Indonesian music with global audiences. She remains active across both countries, continuing her work as a recording artist and public figure spanning two continents.
