Morfem

Morfem is an alternative rock group formed in Jakarta in 2009, emerging from frontman Jimi Multhazam's dissatisfaction with his previous new wave project, The Upstairs. The initial lineup came together at a local music gig, where Jimi met guitarist Pandu and drummer Freddie. Morfem's sound blends alternative rock with punk rock and power pop, characterized by abrasive, noise-driven guitar textures. The band emerged during the late-2000s Jakarta indie rock wave, a period when DIY aesthetics and raw energy regained prominence in the capital's independent music scene after years of more polished pop-rock production.
