Slank

Slank is an Indonesian rock band formed in 1983 by teenagers in Gang Potlot, a Jakarta alley that became synonymous with the group's grassroots ethos. The name derives from "slenge'an," local slang for a laid-back attitude, with the spelling adjusted for aesthetic effect. From their earliest years, Slank distinguished themselves through politically and socially conscious lyrics, positioning the band as a critical voice during and after the New Order era. Alongside God Bless and Dewa 19, they are regarded as one of the greatest rock acts in Indonesian popular music history. Decades on, Slank remains active and decorated, having received numerous industry awards.
