The 1975 are an English pop rock band formed in Wilmslow, Cheshire in 2002. The lineup consists of Matty Healy (vocals, guitar), Adam Hann (guitar), Ross MacDonald (bass), and George Daniel (drums). The band's name derives from a scribbled date—'1 June, The 1975'—found in Healy's secondhand copy of Jack Kerouac's On the Road. Signed to independent label Dirty Hit, the Manchester-based group developed a sound blending indie rock, synth-pop, and electronic experimentation. Over two decades, The 1975 evolved from scrappy indie upstarts into one of the UK's most commercially successful alternative acts, known for conceptual albums and genre-fluid production that bridges anthemic rock and polished pop sensibilities.
