Efek Rumah Kaca is a Jakarta-based indie rock band formed in 2001, comprising Cholil Mahmud, Adrian Yunan Faisal, Airil "Poppie" Nur Abadiansyah, and Akbar Bagus Sudibyo. Named after the atmospheric greenhouse effect, the band emerged during Indonesia's post-Reformasi indie wave, bringing politically charged and socially conscious lyrics to the country's alternative rock scene. They released their self-titled debut album in 2007 through demajors, followed by Kamar Gelap (2008) and Sinestesia (2015). Known for satirical commentary on politics and everyday Indonesian society, Efek Rumah Kaca carved a space for cerebral, lyrically driven rock at a time when the Jakarta indie scene was gaining momentum. Their sparse three-album discography over nearly two decades reflects a deliberate, conceptual approach to songwriting, establishing them as a touchstone for Indonesian bands combining musical craft with social critique.
